Enhanced documentation creation and management

The new Project Navigator provides central and instant access to all documents allowing you to manage your drawings quickly and effectively. Create and arrange typical submission plans, tenders or construction documents, including reflected ceiling plans and interior elevations. Save mouse clicks searching for documents with Project Navigator's straightforward interface. Use it to integrate layer combinations, scale and display options, and to ensure documents comply with office standards. Distribute documents easily to the local network, printer or even to a web-based FTP server.

Reduce the time spent on producing documentation to a minimum with ArchiCAD® 8’s radically improved layout management. Organize the entire documentation for a project automatically into one file using the new Layout Book with timesaving features such as automatic page numbering, multiple master pages and intelligent title block elements. Direct connection ensures all updates on the Virtual Building^TM model are automatically documented on the final drawing sheets.

Take advantage of improved detailing and drafting features. The new Detail Tool features direct links to dedicated workspaces with parametric detail markers that can meet your local standards as well as your own documentation style. Details are tightly integrated into the Virtual Building^TM model, including using multiple, customizable markers linked to the same detail. Existing libraries of typical details can easily be linked and referenced to the detail workspaces.

Ease tedious drafting work by drawing any building element with fully implemented Polylines. There’s no need for later re-shaping – new intuitive data entry methods help you to create new elements the way you want – right from the start.

Increased application speed

Both in the floor plan and in any 3D view, you’ll experience an increase in speed like you’ve never seen before. No matter what the size of your floor plan, you can navigate in real-time using the mouse and scroll buttons.OpenGL Graphic Card Support also provides real-time 3D navigation and editing with photo-rendering quality. ArchiCAD® 8 also boasts substantially reduced section generation time.

A new, unified look-and-feel to ArchiCAD®’s already easy-to-use interface and a revised and simplified menu structure make ArchiCAD® friendlier to both new and long-time power users. Now creating your design and navigating through your documents are fewer mouse clicks away.

Extended design and modeling features

Solid operations based on Boolean Geometry enable you to easily model custom objects on the plan or any 3D view. Create profiled walls or exact slab-roof connections quickly and easily. Intersections between any ArchiCAD® elements can now be modeled using an intuitive interface with the result shown instantly in the 3D window. With this method your bills of materials and other quantity surveys will be much more accurate.

Change an object’s appearance graphically using smart hotspots. Objects can be edited in their natural environment with instant visual feedback and instant access to parameters.
